November had its ups and downs for the Lady Ice Huskies as they started out by getting shut out by RPI 4-0 then turning around 3 days later to win their first game of the season. November also gave Husky freshmen Lori Antflick her first collegiate goal and goalie Leah Sulyma her first collegiate win. Northeastern hosted CHA foe Wayne State University and then proceeded to get swept, but ended out the month on a high note by beating Quinnipiac in a mid-week game. The Lady Ice Huskies ended the month of November with a 2-4 record, but did pick up much needed points in Hockey East competition.
The Northeastern women's ice hockey team traveled to upstate New York to take on the Engineers of Rensselaer on November 3rd. After arriving to the rink an hour ahead of schedule, the Huskies took the ice only to produce a goose egg in the non-conference match up. Rensselaer jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first period and never looked back. After an hour and 55 minutes the Lady Ice Huskies left Troy, New York with a 4-0 loss. Northeastern didn't have much time to rebound as they headed down to Providence College three days later for their 2nd Hockey East game of the season. The Huskies started out quickly as they scored a season high three goals in the first period. The period was highlighted by Lori Antflick (pictured at left) as the freshman from Toronto, Ontario scored her first goal as a Northeastern Husky. Providence came back strong in the second period and tied it up at 3 a piece, but the Huskies had the answer for the Friars and her name was Chesley Jones. Jones scored two power play goals in the third period to put the Huskies up for good and claim their first Hockey East win of the season 5-4. Freshman goalie Leah Sulyma had 31 saves to help her earn her first collegiate win.
The weekend of November 10-11 the Lady Ice Huskies hosted Wayne State University from Detroit, Michigan. Wayne State came in and dominated the Huskies from the get go. Saturday afternoon Sam Poyton gave Wayne State a hat trick and two assists for a 6-2 win over Northeastern. Sunday afternoon proved not to be much better for the Lady Huskies as Wayne State dropped 7 on the Huskies to complete the sweep of the weekend. As Poyton did the night before, Melissa Boal had the hat trick and two assists for the 7-2 win.
On Friday the 16th the Huskies traveled across town to take on the #10 nationally ranked Boston College Eagles. The Eagles showed why they are ranked and took out the Huskies 4-2. Northeastern got goals from Massachusetts native Colleen Sanborn and Cassie Sperry. The Lady Ice Huskies ended the month on November 20th by hosting Quinnipiac and making it the most exciting game of the month. The Huskies took a 2-1 lead into the third period, but with only a 1:43 left to play Kallie Flor tied the game at 2 making it look like the Huskies were headed to overtime. But 57 seconds later Nikki Petrich scored her 8th goal of the season to put the Huskies up 3-2 and seal up the team's second win of the season.
The Lady Ice Huskies enter the final month of 2007 with an overall record of 2-9-1, but things do look up as they took the Thanksgiving weekend off to rest and prepare for the final three games. Vermont, New Hampshire and Boston College all visit Matthew's Arena as Northeastern tries to extend their winning ways and climb the Hockey East ladder.
